Cyber fraudsters in 2020 stole more than Br563 thousand from the card accounts of residents of the Grodno region

According to the results of 2020, more than 2.7 thousand cases of cybercrime were recorded in the region. For comparison, in 2019 there were 980 of them. Most of the cases (more than 2,4 thousand) are related to the theft of money using bank payment details. The damage from such crimes exceeded Br563 thousand.

«For example, only for December 28, 2020, 19 criminal cases were initiated, the amount of damage for which amounted to more than Br9,5 thousand. The size of the stolen goods varies from Br101 to Br2, 2 thousand», the police said.

Such crimes are recorded every day. Fraudsters can call under the guise of a bank representative or a buyer, if the potential victim has placed an ad on the Internet. Messengers with both Belarusian and Russian numbers are used for calls.

«Moreover, in some cases, scammers, posing as employees of a banking institution, call a person by a non-full name. For example, instead of Anastasia – Nastya, or instead of Lyudmila-Luda», the police said. Law enforcement officers remind that no one can disclose confidential data-these are three digits on the back of a bank card and passwords from Internet banking. It is worth remembering that even if there is some emergency situation, bank employees will not call by phone and clarify personal information.
